How Lavender Sky Began
I had never been the “skinny girl.” I first became aware of being overweight at eight years old, when a photographer told me to suck in my stomach for a dance photo.
Over the years, I lost weight several times, but it always came back. The second life got busy or stressful, I struggled again. Eventually I would step on the scale and feel defeated, like I had failed myself all over again.
A couple of years into residency, I reached out to a friend who owned a med spa to try the new weight loss injections everyone was talking about. I didn’t expect much.
Within days, my relationship with food changed. For the first time I could remember, I wasn’t constantly thinking about my next meal. I ate when I was hungry and stopped when I was full.
Is this how other people experience food?
That was the moment I knew this medication was going to change my life.
Then reality hit: how was I going to afford it?
Between student loan debt and years of residency pay, the cost simply wasn’t sustainable, even with a friend discount. So I opened my own pharmacy account, initially just trying to make treatment more accessible for myself.
Then I had a thought: What if other people needed this too?
One afternoon, I built a simple website and sign up form. After hours of trying to come up with a name, I landed on Lavender Sky, something that felt calm, hopeful, welcoming, and different.
I could never have imagined what that little website would become.
Today, one of the things I’m most proud of is that so many members of our team are also patients. When we say we understand, we truly mean it.
This is not a place where you’ll be told to “just eat less” or made to feel ashamed because something that seems simple for someone else has never felt simple for you. Many of us have lived this ourselves, and we know how profoundly the right treatment and support can change someone’s life.
Lavender Sky started because I needed another option.
It grew because, as it turns out, a lot of other people did too.
